Using my site to temporarily test a theme for a library, so some of the content on this page is boilerplate.
You just never know when the urge will come over you to want to delve back into this environment. After reading my previous post from over a year ago, I’m reminded of the how difficult it was to get back into this WordPress site after having been away for so long.
The difficulty had to do with having used a defunct email address. When I signed up for Internet service with Comcast years ago I got a proprietary email address with them and used it when I set up this site. Over years of moving from place to place, cancelling and re-subscribing to Comcast’s service (now Xfinity), the account attached to the email address went away.
When I figured out which email address I needed to log in here, I reached out to Xfinity tech support to see if there was any way I could somehow resurrect the old email address. (The email address was needed to facilitate a password reset, I had no other way to prove that I “owned” this site). It took several iterations of phone calls to tech support to try to explain what I needed, each time getting redirected (higher up? or deeper down?) to someone who kept suggesting that I A) clear my browser cache, and B) try re-starting my computer!
I finally worked my way to a systems tech person who ended up creating an email alias to my existing account so that I was able to receive a password change request from WordPress! Many thanks to the Xfinity folks, the especially that final system tech person, who helped me out with this crazy little problem. Grateful. :)
Now let’s see how long it takes for the next blog entry…
